The Style Contest 2016 results are in and it was a close race. So congratulations to the winners and to all 28 fabulous ladies that entered the contest. Each judge commented on how very difficult it was to choose the winners. Each lady that entered should be proud as they represent the image of a modern woman in a cis-gender world. You are all very stylish women.
And a heartfelt thanks to Choies for sponsoring this contest. Their line of clothing and accessories is both trendy and modern and I hope you will continue to shop with them through our Sister House links. We’ll have a separate posting on the clothes selected by our winners.
With four judges, we had 9 different girls selected for one of the three placing positions and six ladies that received an Honorable Mention (some were overlapping) which means very stylish but some style elements could be improved. Each girl received points based on their rankings and the points were then summarized to select the final winners. The top two winners were extremely close and number 3 was tied among 3 ladies. I bought in a fifth judge to help decide the 3rd place winner.
One interesting note is that the three winners all had different hem lengths.
Each of our judges are highly qualified and you can read about them at the bottom of this article.
Description of Outfit: The sheath dress is dark green yummy velvet. The heels are Ferragamo in green and cream and also too yummy for words. When To Wear: I would wear this outfit to any dressy dinner party or at the opera.
Of all the girls’ outfits, Laurie has nailed her “Jackie O” look. She is dressed classically with a nice choice of a dark green dress instead of black. Her accessories complete the look with multi-strand pearls and turquoise earning. The dark green/crème pumps maximize her elegant look.
The style with grace that is put together to achieve this look is impeccable and correct in all aspects. Her poise, her grace, the smile on her face, all flow to her age appropriate look. The hair, makeup, and jewelry from heels to hose are my reason for choosing her #1.
Alice Jane Mullen
Description of Outfit: Pinup style outfit, consisting of a mock double breasted wiggle dress, felt hat with fabric flowers, Gibson roll (to keep my long hair tidy), satin button earrings, vintage brass and enamel bangle, seamed tights, 5″ stilettos and my signature red nails (they’re like that all the time, in both boy and girl modes). When to wear: This is a regular day-to-day outfit for those occasions when I don’t want to wear.
Alice sports a wonderful monochromatic look with the perfect shade of red. The dress is perfectly fitted and makes her look shapely, but elegant with just the right amount of cleavage. Her nude stockings work with the outfit. The flat hat with the bow gives her a fun look. And while the 5 “stiletto is a bit high to run around town, she pulls them off.
Alice has captured a classic PIN UP GIRL SHOT with hair period correct to poise in a classic pose: red heels and seemed stockings with wiggle dress. Only wished she could put a little more detail in makeup in the eyes: false lashes with a winged cat eye with more defined brows with cupids bow lips. I feel she is well deserving 2nd place.
Description of Outfit: Tea length print dress. Retro styling, elegant whilst decidedly simple it has a sweetheart neckline, a flared A-line skirt with belt, black shrug with lace insert, black strappy sandals, a tote bag. and a simple gold chain with accessories. When To Wear: Suitable for a party or an evening at a restaurant while being adaptable for a day at a country race meeting.
This dress is cut perfectly for her fuller figure. Love the black strap sandals, black sweater and simple gold accessories.
She portrays a very fresh, natural and feminine look. I loved how she looked after every detail, especially her posture, hair color according to the skin tone, the way she carries her bag and the dress cut perfectly for her body shape making her look very sexy but at the same time classy.
Description of Outfit: I wore a bright, flowing spaghetti strapped sun-dress. The asymmetrical hemline provides a girly swish yet allows tanned legs to subtly catch the attention of admirers. A beaded cardigan provides some cover for the shoulders and enhances the figure. When To Wear: Nude, 4 inch sandals complete a look that is perfect for a summer garden party
Judges Comments: 1) A great look with the print dress because of the fit of the dress and beaded sweater and tanned legs. The nude heels are perfection with this look as are the sunglasses. 2) A very nice warm-weather look for summer
Description of Outfit: I am wearing a little black stretch velvet dress with a racer front by Charlotte Russe. When To Wear: I would wear this to my favorite club in the Gayborhood to dance the night away. These pictures were taken at this years First Event fashion show where I modeled for the first time.
Judges Comments: 1) Love all the daring content of this look. This is very raw, real, brave and bold looking pic by the catwalk stance and strut. She is very new to this but the GIRL’S GOT THE LOOK and her future is bright. 2) Dana has the perfect contemporary look that works with her statuesque figure. The black racer front dress adds interest as does her patterned hose. The simple silver necklace and cuff bracelet complete her look.
Description of Outfit: Blue Lace Dress-Jump Juniors Macy’s Shoes-Designer Shoe Warehouse. When To Wear. October 2015 Southern Comfort Conference. I would also like to wear it in a nice dinner date.
Judges Comments: Great outfit and make up. Hair: perfectly done, very good care of it, color, length, and blowdry. Make up: simple and natural, very feminine and elegant. Posture: the posture is a very important accsessory of the general image. We can see your femininity through it. Very natural.
Dress & shoes: perfect match of color and style.
Description of Outfit: This is a red sequined cocktail dress with red mid-heel pumps and costume bracelets, necklace and earrings. The jewelry is fairly understated to allow the sparkly dress to be the centerpiece. The heels are low enough to allow feet to survive a four-hour event that’s spent mostly standing up and talking to other ladies. When To Wear: It was worn to a December holiday party in a large hotel lobby/lounge, but could also be perfect for a Valentine’s event.
Judges Comments: 1) Stacey in a red sequin dress is a knockout with sequins. More is never enough. More glitz, glam, and bling was all too missing. 2) Great look for clubbing or dressy occasions; she wears the sequined dress quite well.
Description of Outfit: The dress I’m wearing is a R/M Richards sleeveless black velvet dress with a burnt sheer jacket. The shoes are by Christian Siriano and have a 4″ heel in a Leopard print. When To Wear: The dress should obviously be worn to Broadway Play followed by cocktails and a dinner at a white table cloth restaurant.
Judges Comments: She is very classy.
Description of Outfit: I’m wearing a light blue floral top over a black swing skirt, with nylons and suede pumps. When To Wear: I consider it appropriate for shopping, clubbing, cocktail parties, dining out, library fund raisers, and dinner at Downton Abbey 🙂
Judges Comments: Great, great outfit! Attitude, posture and the combination of hair, make up, dress, accesories, shoes, manicure, is perfectly balanced for a, feminine, elegant, and classic look. An outfit and image according to her age. You look like a very classy woman.
Description of Outfit: This is a bright yellow, knit dress that is amazing to wear! When To Wear: I wear this dress out when the weather is sunny. I’ve worn this dress to go for coffee, shopping and for a makeover.
Judges Comments: 1) Hanna wears a simple yellow dress that is the perfect color for her complexion. The turquoise necklace sets off the dress. Also like her ballet slipper shoes. She looks stunning but didn’t make the top three because the outfit could have used a jacket or sweater and more a turquoise bracelet 2) Great outfit for the occasion. Nice color, fabric, length and cut for body shape,
Suggestions to be even better: the necklace is very pretty by itself and even though the color match make a perfect contrast with yellow, its a little bit too much considering the lace or flower pattern, and the bracelets. It would be better (more sophisticated) without the necklace, just wear the earrings and bracelets. If you really want to add a necklace it would have to be something tiny and simple similar to the bracelets, but I think it’s no necessary. Anyway you still could were the necklace without any other accessory, remember the less the better. Talking about your wig, even though you are very beautiful, your skin tone would be better with a brown, dark blonde or honey color. It would match better your skin tone and will soften your features so much better. Makeup: pretty nice, I really like how did you combined, natural look with bright lips, I don’t really see the exact lip color because pictures sometimes change the original color, but remember yellow its a primary warm color and match perfect with coppers, orange, orange-red, apricot. Colors to avoid with warm colors: pinks, violets, blue-red, magenta, purples, and cold colors.
Description of Outfit: Kim has paired two clothing items from Venus for this snappy Winter outfit. The Faux Fur Peplum Sweater, helps her get that feminine shape and matches nicely with the bold print of the Embellished Snake Midi Skirt. Adding a pop of color with the blue camisole and Payless snake skin heels completes the look and style.
Judges Comments: Kim has that catalog style and grace with beautiful hair and makeup of an every day fashionista
